I love babies! Not enough to have my own yet, but I do love them and very much look forward to motherhood later down the road.

Last week, I had the opportunity to take some precious pictures of Jensen and Brooke Pilant’s newest addition, Steele Everett Pilant (such a cool name!). He is one of the most beautiful babies I’ve ever seen. And he looks just like his daddy!

Over the past year, I have been blessed to spend time with and get to know Brooke and Jensen. They are both super fun to be around – always making Wade and I laugh. They’re outgoing, friendly, and die-hard Memphis Tiger fans. Jensen is great fun to be around and I loved watching him with his newborn son. There is just something unexplainable about observing a father/son bond – even after 12 days.

Now, I must dwell upon Jensen’s lovely wife, Brooke, for a few moments. First of all, she’s already back in her skinny jeans. Secondly, she has been a true blessing in my life since I started teaching. I remember when I found out we were both going to work at the same school. It was such a relief to know that I would know someone my first year of teaching. From the moment I found out we were both at the same school, I bombarded her with questions. From what should I hang up in my classroom to how in the world should I deal with this particular situation, Brooke has been my helper and shoulder to cry on. God placed the right godly woman in my life to help me through one of the toughest few months of my life. She’s been a helpful source of wisdom, an encourager, motivator, and prayer warrior through it all.

Needless to say, little Steele already has some amazing parents! I know Jensen and Brooke will “train [Steele] in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn [from his ways].” Actually, they’ve already trained him well. He didn’t make a peep through the entire session until he was hungry! Although, when we put him on the dresser, he tried to climb off! We had to remind him that he wasn’t quite big enough to move around just yet.

Thank you, Pilants. I am forever grateful for your friendship, support, and prayers.

James and Derichia Wells March 24, 2009

James and I are co-workers and although I’ve known him for several months now, I was given the opportunity to observe a different side of him this past weekend when I conducted a portrait session with him and his wife, Derichia. I had the pleasure of meeting Derichia in the fall during the Soul Mate Live event hosted by Bellevue Baptist Church (http://soulmatelive.com/). Although I did get to know a little bit about Derichia that evening, I saw her through a new light during our session as well.

James and Derichia have been married for almost a year and a half now. When we went downtown to take some shots their love was evident throughout the entire shoot. It was as if they were engaged or newlyweds. They were adorable together! The look in their eyes clearly showed that what they share is real. What an honor to capture real love on camera and savor it forever! Also, a love that withstood a nasty, rainy day. Fortunately, I was able to capture a few good shots in spite of the lousy weather. We hope to get together real soon for a “sunny day experience!”

My spring break has been such a blessing! I am so thankful for all of the shoots I’ve had the opportunity to conduct over the past week.

I was recently given the opportunity to shoot my first maternity session with Miss Laura. At first, I was extremely hesitant to conduct a maternity shoot because sometimes the shots are just plain weird. However, I decided to give it a try and I’m proud to say I fear the belly no more! I thought these pictures turned out great!

Laura attends my church and is always a pleasure to be around. We conducted a very relaxed session in the privacy of her home. She was brave and flexible. Every idea I threw out, she simply responded, “Whatever you want.” What a joy! Laura, I can’t wait to meet your precious baby, Landon. I know you and David will make great parents!

By the way, Laura is a hair stylist and she gave me a fantastic hair cut right before I took the pictures! If you need a good hair cut, let me know!

A few weeks ago, I approached Heather with the idea of conducting a mock bridal session (since she’s been married 10 months now!) and she loved it! Yesterday was the big day, and it was quite an adventure! We started in the apartment getting her beautiful dress on… she’s so tiny that it was quite the challenge figuring out whether to enter head first or feet first! We managed to get everything together though. Once she was ready, she was quickly reminded of her wedding day as we squeezed her into my little front seat with her big, poufy gown. She looked like a marshmallow all huddled up in my car! But we cranked up the air and traveled over to Memorial Gardens for a late afternoon session.

First, let me say that Heather looked absolutely stunning! If I hadn’t known any different, I would have sworn it was her actual wedding day. She was a natural behind the camera (as you will see below) and made it an absolute blast for me to take her pictures! She was a trooper as she trudged around all over the place in that dress and was up for any pose I threw at her. Heather, you were amazing! Thank you so much!

Ben Tucker

Yesterday was an exciting day for me! I started the day off with a friend and co-worker, Ben Tucker. He is a band teacher and has a genuine love for music. Every time I walk through the band room, he’s always listening to music, playing music, or writing music! So it was a real pleasure when he asked me to take pictures for his website. We traveled down town for a morning shoot at Harbor Town. I loved the feel of working down town with Mr. Tucker and his trumpet since Memphis is known for the Beale Street blues and of course the birthplace of rock ‘n roll. I tried to get him to break out in song during the shoot, but I didn’t have any luck…

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to work with you Ben! I really enjoyed it.

This is Shelley, one of my students. Shelley played on my basketball team this year. She was incredibly dedicated and hard working and such a blessing to coach! She has a sweet spirit and demonstrates such good manners – I love it! I captured this image last week, and it’s definitely one of my favorite images yet….her eyes just GLOW! Shelley, I know this sounds cliché, but stay true to yourself over the years and you will truly be a success. Thank you for your continued kindness. You’re such a pleasure to be around.

Several months ago, I conducted my very first session with Caroline who is absolutely hysterical. It was an informal, laid back atmosphere and we simply had fun and enjoyed one another’s company. Caroline has a free spirit, a fantastic dry sense of humor, and is filled with the joy of the Lord. This session was a blast! Thanks, Caroline!
