Granddaddy and God’s Country March 17, 2010

Last week, Wade and I traveled to Mississippi for Granddaddy’s funeral and other arrangements. It was a time of mourning for the entire family as a great man’s life was lost after a seven month battle with cancer. However, it was also a time of rejoicing as we celebrated his peace and comfort in Christ. For Granddaddy, there is no more pain and suffering. His relationship with Christ and acceptance of the gift Christ has presented ALL of us granted Granddaddy eternal life in Heaven. We are all thankful that he is now with the Lord.

During our time in Mississippi, Wade and I enjoyed spending time with his family. We had many good laughs remembering Granddaddy’s humor. Even in his final months and weeks, Granddaddy was still making people laugh. Through his battle with pancreatic cancer, Wade’s mom lived with and cared for him 24/7. In order to guarantee good care at all times, Luanne had a monitor so Granddaddy could call on her at any time throughout the day. Knowing Luanne couldn’t shut off the monitor, one night he decided to have a little fun. In the wee hours of the night, he sang “She’ll be comin’ round the mountain when she comes!” for an entire hour! Though Lu begged him to stop, she kept right on comin’. So it seems only fitting that a song would cause us all laughter during the actual funeral. Yep, the entire family almost lost control of themselves in the middle of a funeral service. As Wade wrapped up his portion of the service, we anticipated the sound of “Amazing Grace.” When the music played, we were caught off guard by Loretta Lynn’s “God’s Country.” If you haven’t heard this song, you MUST listen to the following clip: http://s0.ilike.com/play#Loretta+Lynn:God’s+Country:1173776:m3975757. It is a big ball of fun with an upbeat rhythm of country and gospel sounds! Oh how fitting it was for Granddaddy – as if he’d planned it himself!

Granddaddy will be missed. His kind and giving spirit along with his continuous humor and jokes will be cherished within our hearts. Today, I encourage you to cherish the moments with your loved ones. Time passes so quickly and how sad it would be if we didn’t take advantage of every opporunity we have to love on those we care about most.

And because the one I love isn’t here to strike a pose… here are a few other things that I especially love right now:

CADBURY EGGS: I eat at least one a day.

TENNIS SHOES: My feet are beginning to throb in anything other than these babies.

SUN: I believe I have now seen the sun 4 times in 2 weeks.

Only the 2 times this week have been late in the afternoon for only a couple of hours…….

I am ready for SUMMER!

Bridal Extravaganza – Engagement Session Winner March 3, 2010

This past Saturday, I had the chance to attend my first very first Bridal Fair – the 2010 KHQA Bridal Extravaganza in Quincy! My husband was an absolute lifesaver through this entire experience. The further I got into to my preparation, the less prepared I felt. However, everything came together Friday night as we spent a few hours setting up a practice booth on our dining room floor – you know you love it. Wade traveled to Quincy with me on the day of the fair to help set up and admire many of the other booths. Once it was all said and done, Wade said he really enjoyed the experience too. My friends, I feel a full-time assistant coming on!

I had the opportunity to meet tons of great brides, and even a couple of grooms during the bridal fair. I am so grateful to every bride, groom, mom, grandma, friend, cousin, and aunt who stopped by my booth and took the time to say hi. At the show, I gave couples the chance to register for a complimentary engagement session. I had such a good response that I decided to give away two sessions instead of the original one. Thank you to everyone who registerd, and be sure to contact me as soon as possible to book your wedding!

The winners of the FREE engagement sessions are:

I will be in touch with the winners over the next couple of weeks to discuss further details. Again, thank you so much to everyone who stopped by my booth. I was blessed by your kindness and interest.

Has anyone seen my earmuffs? {Macon, MO Professional Photographer} February 25, 2010

Every time I leave the house, I bundle up in my winter coat (off which I just lost a button) and my new snuggly warm gloves and scarf from Wal-Mart. This Missouri weather has taken some adjusting to after being in Memphis for a year and a half. Not only has it been bitterly cold, but the SNOW – the ridiculous amount of snow that just keeps on falling…every Sunday. Now, I can’t complain because I have thoroughly enjoyed 3 and 4 day work weeks and the additional photography workday it has provided me. But every time I leave the house, I must bundle up, start my car 15 minutes early, find something to hold on to as I attempt not to slip and fall down our icy steps and pathway through the grass, and cringe all the way to the car when the wind hits my ears. I hate being cold, and about 3 weeks ago, I lost my earmuffs! I wore those things when it was 40 degrees outside! Yet, I have somehow misplaced them. Where oh where did my earmuffs go? If you find them, will you please return them so my ears won’t suffer any longer?

Until then, I decided to find something enjoyable about the snow. I took one photo and edited it two different ways. I really love both edits, but I decided to go with this one simply because its different from my typical edit…and I need to start stepping out of my comfort zone every now and then.

Doesn’t it look gorgeous when you’re not outside suffering in it?!

We ♥ Hands on Fun – I ♥ Faces {Macon, MO Professional Photographer} February 23, 2010

This week I Faces is focusing on hands. More specifically, “hands-on fun!” The picture I chose for this week’s contest makes me smile for two reasons:

1) Micara is ridiculously cute!

2) Only 12 more weeks until my first baby is due. Only 12 more weeks until there is a new life in our home. A child who will soon discover life on earth. Micara seems to be discovering her hands in this picture, and it sparks an excitement within me for the day my baby will discover his/her little hands and fingers.

Alone Time – {Macon, MO Photographer} February 19, 2010

Tonight, Wade is away at a conference, and I am home alone. Originally, I planned to host a high school girls’ sleepover and have a fun girls’ night watching movies, eating snacks, and popping popcorn. Unfortunately, I overlooked the minor detail of Courtwarming – hello! I must admit, I would’ve chosen the dance back in my high school days too.

I just finished watching Edward… I mean Twilight! I ate a big bowl of shells mac and cheese, and fully intend on baking a couple of chocolate chip cookies and accompanything them with a delicious bowl of vanilla ice cream. I swear… it IS the baby causing the weight gain!!!!! I mean, he/she is already showing its excitement about the cookies. The baby hasn’t stopped moving in two hours!

While relaxing at home this evening, I came across this PRECIOUS picture of Micara at her one year birthday party. If only we could all demonstrate this kind of happiness…

Wedding Photography Packages – Custom Designed Wedding Album February 12, 2010

When creating Wedding Packages for prospective clients, I created, erased, recreated, adjusted, erased, and recreated some more. I’d done research and looked in to what other photographers offered, but the one thing most had in common was complexity. Every time I developed a package I liked, I’d look away, then look back and think “It looks so confusing!” I wanted to offer my brides something simple, but full of quality.

When designing my wedding packages, I knew one thing for sure: custom designed wedding albums would be included. I love the high-end quality of a professionally designed and printed wedding album. As a former bride, I also love knowing that my personal wedding photos are safe in a timeless album – an album I can look through whenever I want, and someday share with my kids and grandkids. The timeless aspect of a wedding album is exactly what I want my brides to have. Most girls dream of their wedding day for years (or was that just me?)! But after all of the planning is complete and the wedding day is over, I want couples to be able to cherish their memories and remember the details for years and years to come.

Over the past couple of weeks, I found some time to custom design a wedding album for Brad and Cari Gaunt. I chose Forbeyon as my album printing company, and let me just say, that decision was a seriously good decision. I love it! Below you will find a few snapshots of the finished prodcut: a 12×12 leather cover, flush mount album with linen pages that have been uv coated for added protection.  Enjoy!
